A day in Cape Town: Atlantic seaboard edition

A day in Cape Town: Atlantic seaboard edition

Introduction

Woah, where do we even start? Cape Town is full to the brim of epic things to do. Whittling it down to the Atlantic Seaboard part of the mother city doesn’t make things any easier, there are plenty of things to do.

In this blog post we’re going to focus on what we did in the reel! Why? Because if you follow this plan, we guarantee you will have an unbelievable time whilst experiencing a variety of things on the Atlantic Seaboard.

Saunders tidal pool

Yesssss, you must start your day with an icy dip in the famous Saunders tidal pool. If you have had a big one the night before or just looking to release those endorphins, Saunders will sort you out.

Whether you’re up early to miss the crowds or if you wake up late and saunter on down with a coffee in hand, warm up in the sun and then dip in the refreshing water – Saunders is the perfect start to the day either way.

Hot Hut saunas

After that icy dip, it’s time to balance things out with some serious heat. Hot Hut saunas are mobile, wood-fired saunas that pop up along Cape Town’s beaches, including spots on the Atlantic Seaboard. Kick back in a sauna with a huge window looking straight out at the ocean. It’s a surreal mix of relaxation and scenery.

Sessions are short, affordable, and leave you feeling completely reset. If you’re brave, pair it with another cold plunge for the ultimate hot-cold therapy.

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

Now that you have won the morning and done some good for the body, it’s time for some food for the soul. The Oranjezicht City Farm Market at the V&A Waterfront is one of Cape Town’s most loved weekend hangouts.

It’s not just about shopping for fresh produce,  although the organic fruit and veg are top-notch, it’s also about soaking up the vibe. Think artisanal breads, pastries, global street food, and local crafts all under one roof.

Grab a coffee, wander the stalls, and enjoy the buzz of locals and tourists mingling. It’s a perfect way to taste Cape Town’s creative food scene without overthinking.

Zeitz MOCAA – Modern Art Museum

Once you’ve eaten your fill and bought some cool local goods, head over to the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA).

Located in the strikingly reimagined grain silo at the V&A Waterfront, it’s the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world. The building itself is a masterpiece, with cathedral-like interiors carved out of concrete cylinders.

Inside, you’ll find bold, thought-provoking exhibitions from artists across Africa and the diaspora. Even if you’re not usually a “museum person,” the scale and creativity here will leave you impressed.

PS. If you are an African national, you get to go free very Wednesday between 10am – 1pm.

Ice cream in Camps Bay & sunset

A day on the Atlantic seaboard would not be full without and ice cream and a sunset in Camps Bay. Grab a scoop from one of the many spots along the promenade of shops and then wander across to the beach, settle into the sand, and watch the sun dip behind the horizon with the Twelve Apostles mountain range framing the view.

It’s simple, it’s iconic, and it’s the perfect finale to a day on the Atlantic Seaboard.
